Bill Gentry was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, graduating as the class valedictorian from North Fulton High School in 1977. Bill then followed family tradition and attended the University of Virginia, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1981 with a degree from the prestigious Economics Honors Program. Bill enrolled in the Lumpkin School of Law at the University of Georgia, graduating with his J.D. (juris doctor) degree in 1986. Bill Married Sherry Gaunt in 1987, and they have two children.
In 1986, Bill Gentry began working as an attorney for the Atlanta law firm of Webb & Daniel, where he refined his legal skills, working on a variety of large and small legal matters, ranging from complex business litigation involving multimillion dollar securities fraud, antitrust, and corporate opportunity cases to domestic matters and personal injury defense.
In 1990, Bill moved his law practice to Marietta, where he co-founded the law firm of Flournoy & Gentry. During his nine years with Flournoy & Gentry, Bill continued to direct his law practice in the field of complex civil litigation. Bill also firmly believes in and pursues alternative means for resolving legal disputes, such as mediation, case evaluation, and arbitration. Bill has mediated and arbitrated dozens of cases, both as the attorney for a party undergoing mediation or arbitration and as the mediator or arbitrator hearing the case.
In 1999, Bill established the Gentry Law Firm to render cost-effective legal services to individuals and small businesses facing the prospect of litigation.
The Gentry Law Firm is located in restored Methodist parsonage built in 1928. Situated near the historic Marietta Square, the Gentry Law Firm is readily accessible to the Cobb County Judicial Complex. In addition, the Gentry Law Firm's location near Interstate 75 affords convenient and easy access to all federal and state courts in Atlanta and throughout north Georgia.
Bill's bonds with legal and lay communities in Marietta and Cobb County are broad and deep. Bill served as President of Georgia's second largest local association of attorneys, the Cobb County Bar Association, for 2001 - 2002. In addition, Bill's family is active in Due West Methodist Church, where he has taught Sunday School and chaired the staff parish relations committee. Bill is a long-time member of the Marietta Kiwanis Club, and he has sponsored and coached local youth baseball teams for several years.
